In Birds of a Feather, Claire Rosen photographs live birds against richly patterned, historically inspired backdrops, creating portraits that sit between natural history, decorative art, and contemporary photography. In Bald Eagle, 3028, Rosen places the eagle before a warm coral damask textile, creating a refined setting that heightens the bird’s commanding presence.

The bald eagle is one of the most iconic birds of prey, recognized for its white head, dark body, yellow beak, and powerful stance. Here, Rosen captures the eagle perched on a tree stump, its head turned slightly downward and its body held with quiet strength. The softness of the patterned backdrop contrasts with the eagle’s sharp profile and sculptural form, giving the image both elegance and intensity.

Rosen’s process is rooted in patience, observation, and respect for her subjects. These photographs are not digitally composited. Instead, the artist brings carefully selected wallpapers and textile backdrops to the birds and photographs them in real time.
