In Birds of a Feather, Claire Rosen photographs live birds against richly patterned, historically inspired backdrops, creating portraits that sit between natural history, decorative art, and contemporary photography. In Snowy Owl, 3346, Rosen places the owl before a pale gray patterned backdrop, creating a quiet tonal setting that emphasizes the bird’s white plumage and luminous yellow eye.

Snowy owls are known for their striking pale feathers, rounded heads, and powerful presence. Here, Rosen captures the owl with its wings partially extended, perched among weathered branches that echo the muted natural tones of its feathers. The restrained palette gives the image a wintery stillness, while the owl’s alert gaze brings a sense of life and intensity to the composition.
