Brandon Herman
Brandon Herman (born 1983) is a Los Angeles–based multidisciplinary artist whose work spans photography, painting, sculpture, video, and performance. He earned a BFA in Photography and Film from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2006 and has since shown in solo and group exhibitions around the world. His photographs have appeared in publications such as Artforum, American Photo, Vice Photo Book, Flaunt, and Nylon.
Herman’s practice interrogates the pulse of his generation—mass media, consumerism, Internet culture, and the psychology of desire—by meticulously staging scenarios with hand‑picked models. In 2007 he undertook a yearlong series inspired by the high‑profile kidnappings of Polly Klaas and Patricia Hearst, probing themes of captivity, publicity, and power. Through constructed tableaux and performative gestures, his images blend documentary realism with surreal narrative, offering both critique and celebration of contemporary suburbia and the mediated self.
Continuing to push boundaries between mediums, Herman’s evolving body of work remains fascinated by the intersections of technology, voyeurism, and human behavior. Now living and working in Los Angeles, he is represented by galleries in North America and Europe and continues to expand his exploration of visual culture through exhibitions, collaborations, and publications.
