Zoltan Gerliczki

Zoltán Gerliczki (born 1971) is a Hungarian documentary photographer whose work is deeply informed by his early years in a Budapest orphanage under Communist rule. He discovered photography as a means of forging personal connections and asserting identity amid social upheaval. After studying at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, Gerliczki embarked on a career spanning Europe, documenting marginalized communities, abandoned urban spaces, and moments of quiet resilience. Working primarily in black and white, he uses natural light and long exposures to create intimate, emotionally charged images that bridge personal memory and collective history. His photographs have been shown in solo exhibitions in Budapest and Vienna and are held in private collections across Central Europe. Through his lens, Gerliczki continues to explore themes of belonging, memory, and the search for home.
