Andre de Plessel

Andre de Plessel (b. 1960s) is a contemporary fine art and fashion photographer known for his sophisticated, moody black-and-white imagery that explores the boundary between sensuality and restraint. Working between Miami and New York, de Plessel creates photographs that evoke emotional intensity through controlled lighting, minimalist composition, and an atmosphere of quiet seduction. His images are often described as “calculated erotic”—not overtly sexual, but charged with a sense of intimacy, distance, and psychological tension.

Born at the Frankfurt airport to an Italian mother and French father, de Plessel’s cosmopolitan upbringing laid the foundation for a life shaped by travel and cultural exchange. He studied photography and visual arts at the University of Arts and Graphics in Frankfurt and continued his education at the Miro School of Arts in Barcelona. Over the years, he has lived and worked in Milan, London, Paris, Barcelona, Los Angeles, New York, and Miami, and this global exposure has deeply informed the style, tone, and emotional resonance of his work.

De Plessel’s career spans more than two decades, during which he has collaborated with major international brands including Coca-Cola, Nike, DKNY, and Deutsche Bank, as well as editorial giants such as Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. These experiences in commercial photography honed his technical precision and visual storytelling, but it is within his fine art practice that de Plessel fully expresses his artistic voice.

His photographs, predominantly rendered in black and white, emphasize nuance over narrative. With a painterly command of light and shadow, de Plessel captures fleeting expressions, subtle gestures, and the charged atmosphere that exists in moments of stillness. His work invites viewers into a psychological space where elegance, vulnerability, and allure converge. Whether photographing the human form or abstracted details, de Plessel’s images remain rooted in an emotional landscape that is timeless and universal.
