“Academy Award-winning director, producer, screenwriter and actor Spike Lee came to my NYC studio to be photographed for the cover of 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬 Magazine when Lee’s film 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘮 𝘟 was released in 1992.

Photographer Jonathan Delano set up back-lite photographs of Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad in the background. Lee arrived at my NYC studio sometime after 6:00 PM and seemed pleased with the background.

We chatted easily as I photographed the multi-talented artist. As he left Lee told me he was headed to the West Side for a performance of one of his favorites, Grammy Award-winning Chaka Kahn.” – Harry Benson
