Jo Whaley has exhibited extensively in museums and
galleries, including the "American Perspectives" exhibit,
which recently toured throughout Japan. Her work is included in
the collections of the George Eastman House, the Los Angeles County
Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of
Fine Art, Houston. She was a recipient of one of the last NEA Visual
Artist's Fellowhips and has received numerous Polaroid Studio Grants.
THE PROCESS
NATURA MORTA PORTFOLIO Utilizing painted backdrops and strobe lighting
these images are theatrical constuctions created for the camera.
They are taken
with one shot using a 4x5 view camera and Kodak VPS. The photographs
are on Fuji Crystal Archive paper, printed by the photographer.
The scale of the images is 20x24" and 24"x30".
ENTOMOLGY PORTFOLIO
After creating miniature habitats for insects in the studio, these
images are are illuminated, using strobe lighting and tiny mirrors.
They are taken with one shot , using a Mamiya RB 67 with a Mamiya
90mm K/L lens. Film: Kodak Portra N.C. 160 120

photographer. The scale of the images is 20"x24" and
24"x30".
